Michael R. Ferrell, Esq. is a Colorado personal injury lawyer and criminal defense attorney serving clients throughout the state of Colorado.
Mike started his legal career with the Twentieth Judicial District (Boulder County) District Attorney’s Office. Mike interned with the Boulder DA’s office throughout all three years of law school. During Mike’s second and third years of law school, he prosecuted misdemeanor and traffic cases in the Boulder DA’s office under the Colorado Student Practice Act.
In Mike’s third year of law school, he clerked for Boulder County District Court Judge Thomas Mulvahill who presided over a docket of criminal (felony) and domestic relations (divorce and child custody) matters. While clerking for Judge Mulvahill, Mike conducted legal research and drafted numerous memos and orders for multiple district court judges on myriad legal issues.
After graduating from law school and passing the Colorado Bar Exam, Mike was hired as a Deputy District Attorney in the Eighteenth Judicial District (Arapahoe County). As a Deputy District Attorney, Mike prosecuted thousands of misdemeanor, DUI, and traffic offenses. Some of the cases Mike commonly prosecuted include domestic violence cases, assault, harassment, theft, drug possession, sex crimes, criminal mischief, DUI, and protection order violations.
Mike left his position with the Arapahoe County DA’s office to open The Ferrell Law Firm, PLLC. Since opening The Ferrell Law Firm, PLLC, Mike has defended hundreds of clients facing felony and misdemeanor charges ranging from minor traffic offenses to homicide. Mike is known by district attorneys throughout Colorado as someone who will take a case to trial–and win–if the DA refuses to offer a reasonable resolution to a criminal case. Mike’s reputation among prosecutors and judges in Colorado as a tenacious litigator who meticulously and methodically investigates and prepares his cases sets him apart from other criminal defense attorneys and gives him an advantage in plea negotiations with district attorneys. Mike is an active member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar (CCDB).
Mike began his personal injury practice soon after opening The Ferrell Law Firm, PLLC when a close friend’s children were injured in a car accident. Mike had known these two children since the day they were born. Mike passionately and tenaciously advocated for his clients with the at-fault driver’s insurance company for full and fair compensation, resulting in a six-figure settlement. Since this initial case, Mike has litigated and/or settled numerous car accident and slip and fall personal injury cases, recovering millions of dollars for his injured clients. Mike is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) and the American Association for Justice (AAJ). Mike regularly attends continuing legal education events to stay up to date on the latest trends, cases, and statutes relevant to personal injury law.
Mike’s passion and purpose is helping people to fight against the overwhelming power of the government (in criminal cases) and large insurance companies (in personal injury cases).
When not advocating for his clients, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, two labrador retrievers, and a rescue cat. Mike also enjoys attending his children’s sporting events, traveling, weightlifting, and running.
Mike is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Mike is licensed to practice law in Colorado, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
